The Director of Corporate Tax leads the tax compliance and planning for WIS International and CROSSMARK while acting in a consulting role for all tax matters. By providing guidance to business functions, accounting staff, and consultants, this role ensures the company is in compliance with federal income, state income, and sales/use tax regulations and interpretations. Using interpretation of complex tax regulations and deriving strategies, this role will work to improve the overall profitability of the company. This role also works with the professional advisors to ensure the company is not making decisions that would negatively impact their tax planning strategies.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Formulate tax plans and strategies to accomplish plans in an organized and timely way includingminimizing organizational tax liability and ensuring compliance with tax code changes,collaborating with corporate counsel or company advisors to determine the tax implications of legal strategies, assessing current tax practices and implementing processes and procedures to increase the efficiency of the tax department, and resolving critical tax inquiries.

  • Provide leadership and strategically manage all U.S. Federal and State income tax matters for multiple states. Perform analysis regarding the U.S. Federal and State tax impact of business transactions and other planning strategies.

  • Review sales/use tax returns for multiple states and keep up with changes to state laws that impact the company.

  • Ensure that the company is utilizing and receiving credits for WOTC and/or other credits that should be available that make business sense to pursue and that reflect good corporate citizenship.

  • Ensure compliance with ASC 740 and support all audit requirements. Calculate the company's tax provision to ensure the company's U.S. Federal and State income tax expense, liability, and deferred taxes are properly reflected in the financial statements.

  • Manage process for quarterly estimates and annual extensions calculation and payments, as well as analysis / reconciliation of tax accounts.

  • Oversee the work of all external tax consultants.

  • Coordinate and support all IRS and state audits.

  • Manage the tax compliance calendar to ensure all tax deadlines are met by keeping up to date on tax law changes, court decisions, tax regulations, and company-initiated developments.

  • Directly manage, lead, and cultivate a team of Tax Accountants through guidance, leadership and mentorship. Strategically identify opportunities and implement improvements to drive synergies within the team to support both companies.

  • Completes special projects as assigned by the Corporate Controller or Chief Financial Officer.

Additional Requirements:

Education/Experience : Bachelor’s Degree Required in Accounting/Tax; Masters in Tax preferred; 10+ years of experience, with a minimum of 2 years in International Tax, “Big 4” experience preferred.

Specific Skills:

  • In-dept knowledge of ASC 740, as well as, U.S. and Canada tax laws.

  • Proven ability to research complex tax matters and determine the appropriate actions to address.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectivelycommunicate technical tax matters to all audiences.

  • Strong leadership skills including the ability to coach others and develop bench strength.

  • Ability towork effectively across all levels of the organization and with external advisors to accomplish company goals.

  • Excellent time management, decision making, and organization skills; must be able to effectively multi-task and meet deadlines.

  • Strong attention to detail with good organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Must be highly motivated with a strong work ethic.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations : CPA required

Computer Skills: Accounting & tax preparation systems software experience, strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, ability to query and retrieve data from financial systems.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to operate a computer. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to

adjust focus. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Supervisory Responsibilities : This role will have direct reports.

Work Environment: Primarily office environment with the capability to work remotely.

Language Skills: English is the primary language skill; however, bilingual skills may be required based on business necessity.
