The Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for providing expert level consultation, guidance and support for all functions of the Employee Relations Department. These functions include management training, consultation and guidance; employee complaint review and investigations; review of issues escalated through the appeal process; assistance with Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) responses; oversight of reduction in force processes; and maintenance of Employee Relations information on CROSSMARKConnect. This position is also responsible for promoting good communication and positive relationships with employees to promote employee satisfaction.


  • Provides consultation and guidance to management on employment-related matters.

  • Creates and implements on-going management training.

  • Analyzes and investigates a broad range of employee relations issues and allegations including policy violation, inappropriate behavior, misconduct, discrimination, complaints, job related claims, performance, conflict resolution, mediation, hostile work environment, and harassment.

  • Approves involuntary separations to include assisting management personnel to appropriately separate employees from the company via telephone or in-person meetings.

  • Utilizes a database system on a daily basis to track, report, and preserve actions, communications and documentation regarding all matters.

  • Analyzes and reviews escalated employee relations matters to ensure proper resolution.

  • Assists with responses to the EEOC and/or state agencies, to include gathering and organizing information; interviewing involved parties; and creating written responses for submission within strict deadlines.

  • Coordinates all aspects of reduction in force processes including education and guidance with management personnel; analysis of the requested action; and completion of required processes associated with reductions in force.

  • Provides management training via in-person, stand-up meetings as well as conference calls with teams. Monitors the enforcement of policies to ensure legal compliance and equitable treatment for employees. Gathers, assembles, preserves and reports facts, statements or other evidence for use in legal actions.

  • Provides assistance to the Legal Department when required.

  • Provides service excellence through responding to email and voice mail in a timely, courteous and effective manner.

  • Maintains current and relevant knowledge in a variety of concepts, practices, procedures as well as legal updates associated with Human Resources and Employee Relations.

  • Participates as a company representative in legal actions, including depositions and unemployment hearings, as necessary.

  • Assists in maintenance of Employee Relations information on CROSSMARKConnect.

  • Performs work on the weekend as scheduled.

Education: H. S. graduate or equivalent is required. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years experience in Human Resources with focus on employee relations is required. A minimum of 2 years experience hiring, training and supervising personnel is preferred.

Physical Demands: Frequent sitting, typing and use of the telephone are required.

Specific Skills:

  • Up-to-date knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws, statutes and best practices as they relate to employee relations.

  • Able to prioritize, organize and document all activities.

  • Proficient skills with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point. L

  • Lawson experience including report creation is preferred, but not required.

Specialized Knowledge, License, etc.: PHR or SPHR certification is preferred. If no certification exists at time of hire, it must be obtained within first year of employment.

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Working Conditions: Corporate office environment is primary work location. Up to 25% travel may be required from time-to-time.

Language Skills: English is the primary language skill; however, bilingual skills may be required based on business necessity.
